Repair or replace a failed encoder?
The right answer depends on the fault, part availability and machine downtime. Start with the complete ID number, not just the series name.

When repair deserves a look
On an older machine, an encoder may be obsolete even though the machine still earns its keep. A repair evaluation can show whether the original unit is serviceable, avoiding an unplanned change to mounting or interface. Do not assume every damaged encoder can be repaired; inspect it first.
When replacement may make more sense
If a unit is too damaged to restore, or a current compatible replacement is available with a better fit for your downtime window, replacement may be the practical choice. Compare the entire ID/configuration: measuring length, interface, reference marks, cable, connector and mechanical fit can differ within a series.
