HEIDENHAIN GAP 1081 Vertical Gap Encoders
The HEIDENHAIN GAP 1081 is an incremental exposed linear encoder for vertical gap measurement. It measures the distance between a measuring mirror and a scanning head, providing out-of-plane feedback for precision positioning and metrology. A mirror up to 3040 mm long allows continuous measurement while an axis moves across a plane.

Selection and installation
Select the measuring mirror and scanning head together. Mirror length is the travel length across the plane, not the vertical measuring range. The accuracy specification depends on whether measurement is stationary or takes place during motion perpendicular to the measuring direction. Confirm mounting, mirror material, cable length, reference-mark requirements and signal adjustment before ordering.
The GAP 1081 uses visible laser radiation. Follow the laser-safety and installation instructions for the selected components. Do not look directly into the beam.
