HEIDENHAIN RVM 4000 Rotary Axis Reference Encoders
The HEIDENHAIN RVM 4000 is a non-contact reference encoder for acceptance testing and inspection of machine-tool rotary axes. Its optical scale drum and scanning module measure rotary-axis motion for comparison with programmed positions. RVM 4180 is intended for rotary tables; the compact RVM 4280 is intended for swivel axes.
RVM 4000 is currently offered on a rental basis only. Contact us to discuss the inspection requirement and confirm a suitable route; this page does not promise rental availability or stock.

Inspection setup
The encoder operates with an EIB 74x interface box and a PC with suitable evaluation software. The setup can support acceptance testing and evaluation in accordance with ISO 230-2, ISO 230-3 and VDI/DGQ 3441. Mounting tools, tool-holder adapters, cables, interface electronics and software must be matched to the machine and inspection task. This page covers the RVM 4000 hardware, not a separate software offering.
Measurement outside the rotary-axis center can be possible with a suitable setup, but errors from associated linear axes may influence the result. The operator must interpret the overall measurement. The machine geometry can also limit the measuring range.
